Midsummer Proms!

For tickets, see below
Classical music in summer London? For more than 100 years, the place to be is the Proms. Classical music in the Dutch summer? Since 25 years ago, the place to be is the Midsummer Ensemble. To celebrate this anniversary, we bring these traditions together this year and warmly welcome you to the Midsummer Proms!

Our Proms concert takes you back to the highlights of Midsummer Ensemble. One more time: the all-time favourites! We return to the very beginnings of the Midsummer Ensemble with the opening movement of Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle, tremble once again at Mozart’s Thamos, König in Ägypten, and perform a festive excerpt from Bach’s Mass in B minor. We will also perform works we have always wanted to do, from Pärt’s impressive Arbos to Van Anrooy’s cheerful Piet Hein Rhapsody and the atmospheric final movement of Sibelius’s Finlandia. Above all, we are making it a true celebration, with an expanded orchestra, vocal soloists, a presenter, and a specially commissioned arrangement of a Proms classic.

About Midsummer Ensemble
For 25 years, the Midsummer Ensemble has been Amsterdam’s sunniest musical ensemble, under the inspiring direction of Jeroen Spitteler from the very beginning. Every year, choir and orchestra open the new season for amateur musicians from Amsterdam and the surrounding area with an enticing programme.
